Mayor opposed to Port Lincoln iron ore exports
May 29, 2008
May 29 (ABC West Coast SA) – Port Lincoln’s mayor has come out against using the city for iron ore exports after a visit to study similar exports from Western Australia.
Peter Davis was among a council group who went to Esperance as part of investigations into Centrex Metals possibly using Port Lincoln’s Proper Bay for its operations.
He says the visit has convinced him that Centrex is right in saying that red dust emissions should not be an issue.
Councillor Davis says the general disruption and noise to the community from mining trucks and trains means the activity should not happen from Port Lincoln.
“The best single option for the mining industry, Eyre Peninsula and our state is to investigate a purpose-built mineral export centre somewhere near Port Neil,” he said.
“I’ve got to say my visit to Esperance has confirmed what I have said from about six weeks ago.”
