Iran sets $6.1bn for mining projects

May 25 (AME Info) – The Chairman of the Executive Board of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organisation has announced that 36 new mines and mining operations are scheduled to launch in February 2009. The government allocated $6.1bn to mining projects at the beginning of the current Iranian new year. The Chairman noted that the country’s production of copper, steel, aluminum, and iron ore would be raised by 250,000 tonnes, 15.8m tonnes, 505,000 tonnes, and 25m tonnes respectively.
